Technology and gaming.

Gaming technology and the FUTURE.

My topic that I picked is technology and how it is changing gaming. From the original game screen of two paddles with a bouncing ball better known as pong, to inviting people over to play games, the first multiplayer.
To nowadays, where we are using our bodies to control the screen, seeing realistic graphics, listening to quality music, to multiplying with people all over the world not just people in your house and how technology is changing this.

CNET_Logo.jpg Scott Stein, What E3 told me about the future of gaming (June 13, 2014) Available at http://www.cnet.com/news/what-e3-told-me-about-the-future-of-gaming/. CNET has always been a great site to download software or read up on the recent happenings in technology. Their site will take some time to get use to depending on what you are looking for, as a whole I found navigating around the site rather fun, never knowing what new article or software you can find today. In the article by Stein, he talks about the recent E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) event that happened this year, and what he learned about the future of gaming. For example, indie games are becoming more popular than ever before, especially with the increasing numbers of mobile users. Now major developers are not the only quality game makers. Scott also mentions about the possible entrance of Apple into the gaming console world and how they already have a market in the app world they just need a way to go up against Sony who is the dominate console company.

polygon-logo.png Tracy Lien, How sensory technology could change the future of gaming (May 23, 2014) http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/23/5740344/sensory-neuro-motion-gaming. When the Nintendo Wii gaming console came out the idea of using motion for gaming became reality. Though it was unpolished by today’s standards it was a major step for the gaming industry. In this article by Tracy Lien, the coming technology of being able to use one’s mind to control objects is fast approaching. Companies like Neurosky have developed headsets that can tell if you are relaxed or engaged in a game. In the end what most companies want is to enable the gamer to control their environment, by using their minds. giving the player Jedi abilities (only for in game purposes that is). I found the article insightful and interesting. The Ploygon website had a very easy set up that was fun to navigate through.

Silicon-Angle.png Mike Wheatley, Microsoft’s Vision For Futuristic Gaming: A Holodeck In Your Living Room (Sep 18, 2012) http://siliconangle.com/blog/2012/09/18/microsofts-vision-for-futuristic-gaming-a-holodeck-in-your-living-room/. Every child’s and gamer’s dream was to turn their room into an interactive battle or sports game. With the news of Microsoft’s application for a patent on a 360 degree immersion gaming system, which they are calling a “Holodeck”, that dream is slowly becoming a reality. At the current stage of gaming, the Microsoft Kinect has been able to successfully capture the movements of the player and place those movements into the game on a 2D screen. With the Holodeck technology gamers will be able to interact with a 360 degree environment and have the time of their lives, allowing themselves to . Siliconangle has a very simple layout and made me feel as though I was reading an article from the New York Times. What made them a great find was that they produced articles that are oriented towards those in the Computer Science field.

FDC822B16CD43CE72A007BF9C9396862C42CD870 Marsh David, The future of PC gaming: virtual reality (12 March 2014) http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/03/12/the-future-of-pc-gaming-virtual-reality/". Since its potential in the 80’s, VR technology has always captivated the masses and especially those in gaming. However, the technology didn’t work well nor did it last very long, most people still remember the failed Virtual Boy. Virtual Reality can change everything about how games are played and even developed. Some are looking at it as a gaming platform, making developers design simulations that are becoming more and more realistic. At the current moment, most popular VR games are ones where the player is sitting. With First-person shooters, VR is also becoming popular, the only catch is faster paced games would cause too much disorientation. With a new take on VR, gamers should expect stunning graphics and more convincing characters i.e. showcasing emotions, and better in game interactions.

NoPrimaryImage.png Brad Chacos, The future of PC gaming goes portable, with lighter gear and nimbler services (Jun 17, 2014) http://www.pcworld.com/article/2364265/the-future-of-pc-gaming-goes-portable-with-lighter-gear-and-nimbler-services.html We may talk about the technology and the ability to play the most high-powered games on the market, yet we rarely face an issue many gamers face, and that is mobility. With the rise of Apps and the ability to not be chained to one area, game makers are starting to design machines that are lighter, carry faster processors , and have the graphic capabilities of some of the top of the line game machines like the SteamBoy machine or the Alienware Alpha, giving gamers more places to play their games. Though it is somewhat chaotic at first PCworld does take some time to navigate around, once you are used to the set up, navigating around the site is rather simple.
